Woman banned from road for driving without due care

A St George’s woman has been banned from the road for four months and fined $1,250 for causing grievous bodily harm by driving.

Zina Darrell, 59, admitted to causing injury to a motorcyclist by driving her car without due care and attention in St David’s on August 16, 2021.

The victim, who was riding a motorcycle, sustained an injury to his left hand and broke four fingers in the incident on St David’s Road at its junction with Southside Road.

Bruce Swan, a defence attorney, called for leniency arguing that his client had always admitted liability for the offence, had contacted her insurance company immediately after the incident to ensure the victim was compensated and had apologised.
