Man assaults customer at supermarket

A man who assaulted another shopper while waiting in line at a supermarket was given a conditional discharge in Magistrates’ Court.

Jarae Thompson, 33, pleaded guilty to assaulting Jerry Whitecross and causing him actual bodily harm when he appeared in court yesterday.

The court heard that on August 20, Mr Whitecross felt something “like a kick” while standing in line in front of Thompson at Somers Supermart in St George.

The two men then fought and, after the incident, Mr Whitecross attended King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for injuries to his right forearm.

Magistrate Maria Sofianos warned Thompson to stay out of trouble during his six-month conditional discharge, or his sentence could be changed.
