Woman ordered to drug court for possessing cocaine

A woman caught with cocaine has been ordered to participate in a drug treatment court programme.

Sharlene Ascento, 67, admitted having the drug, as well as a home-made pipe, when she appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that police found the pipe and 0.67 grams of freebase cocaine while searching her at her home in Smith’s on February 7, 2023.

Magistrate Maria Sofianos ordered that social inquiry and drug use reports be written for Ascento, who is involved in the Turning Point substance abuse programme, and also ordered she observe drug treatment court beginning on February 13.

Ascento was released on $1,000 bail until that time.
