Men ordered to participate in DUI Court

Two men were ordered to participate in a drink-drivers court treatment programme yesterday.

Khyle Beckett, 37, admitted refusing to take a breath test and Gladstone Butterfield, 39, pleaded guilty to having care and control of a bike while impaired by alcohol when they appeared in Magistrates’ Court.

Beckett, from Paget, committed the offence in Hamilton on July 8, 2023, and Butterfield, from Southampton, crashed his bike on Horseshoe Road on October 28, the court heard.

After the incident, Butterfield was uncooperative and verbally abusive to police and medical personnel, who stopped him from falling down several times, and was taken to Hamilton Police Station.

Butterfield told magistrate Maria Sofianos that he had not drank any alcohol since the incident.

Ms Sofianos ordered drug-use reports for both men, ordered that they participate in DUI court beginning on February 20 and released them on $1,500 bail until that time.

They were also disqualified from driving all vehicles until further notice from the court.
