Men banned from roads for 18 months

Two motorists involved in separate road collisions have both been disqualified from driving all vehicles for 18 months.

Eugene Stoneham, 40, admitted refusing to take a breath test and Jonathan Outerbridge, 38, pleaded guilty to driving while impaired by alcohol when they appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that Stoneham, from Southampton, collided with a car while driving east on South Road, Smith’s on January 14.

Stoneham tried to walk away from police officers at the scene and refused to take a breath test multiple times.

The court also heard that police investigating a reported collision on February 3 found Outerbridge, from St George’s, asleep in his car near the junction of Middle Road and Montpelier Road in Devonshire.

While talking to officers, Outerbridge admitted drinking before getting behind the wheel and was taken to the Hamilton Police Station.

In addition to being banned, both men were fined $1,500 for the offences.
