Visitor fined $3,000 for intrusion of privacy against minor
A cruise ship passenger has been fined $3,000 after making inappropriate comments to a girl aged under 10 in front of her father.
Herbert Kyan, 67, admitted intruding on a man’s privacy when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The court heard that Kyan, from East Elmhurst, New York, travelled to the island on board a cruise ship last week.
Kyan moved close to the man’s daughter, who is under the age of 10, and told her he loved her, while on the ship on May 22.
The complainant then stood between Kyan and his daughter, and called the police.
Kyan told officers at Hamilton Police Station that he had been drinking rum before the incident and did not recall interacting with the father or daughter, neither of whom can be identified for legal reasons.
Magistrate Craig Attridge ordered Kyan to pay the $3,000 fine before leaving Bermuda.
