Man denies having drugs in prison
A man was charged today with having drugs in Westgate Correctional Facility with intent to supply.
Blaine Simmons, 31, denied having cannabis, diamorphine, cannabis resin and MDMA inside the facility, an increased penalty zone, when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court.
Mr Simmons, from Southampton, also pleaded not guilty to conveying a SIM card and three phone chargers into the prison and chose to keep the case in Magistrates’ Court.
He allegedly committed the offences on April 26, 2024.
Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson adjourned the case to July 7 and released Mr Simmons on $25,000 bail with a surety until that time.
Ms Anderson also ordered Mr Simmons to surrender all travel documents, follow a daily curfew and not attend any facility operated by the Department of Corrections.
