Prison visitor caught with heroin admits smuggling
A visitor caught attempting to smuggle heroin and THC into Westgate Correctional Facility will be sentenced next month.
Faheem Swan, 27, admitted trying to bring controlled drugs, listed as “prohibited high-risk items”, into the prison, which is an increased penalty zone, when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Swan, from Sandys, pleaded guilty to having diamorphine, commonly known as heroin, and Delta-9 THC in the facility.
The quantities of drugs, 0.84g of heroin and 4.46g of THC, were revealed during a court appearance in January.
The court heard that Swan was found with the items when he visited the prison on April 6, 2024.
Corrections officers called police after they found the drugs while searching Swan at the facility.
Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson ordered a social inquiry report to be written for Swan.
She adjourned the case to July 21 for sentencing and extended his bail until that time.
