Driver banned after early-morning crash
A female motorist whose car struck a wall last summer has been banned from the road for drinking and driving.
Daliah Gibbs, 24, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to a charge of driving while over the legal blood-alcohol limit.
The court heard that at about 2am on August 31, 2024, police responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Crow Lane in Pembroke, near the junction with Lane Hill.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a silver Suzuki car with front-end damage and a damaged wall near the Hamma Galleries.
Police spoke with Gibbs, who was in the driver’s seat, and noticed that her speech was slurred and her breath smelled of intoxicants.
Gibbs was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where she agreed to provide police with a sample of blood.
Tests confirmed that she had 92 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, above the legal limit of 80 milligrams.
Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson disqualified Gibbs from driving for 18 months and dealt her a $1,500 fine, which she ordered to be paid forthwith.
