Woman faces dog-related offences after chicken deaths

A woman has been charged with ten dog-related offences after two of her animals allegedly killed some pet chickens.

Trena Riley, 53, denied two charges that she owned two “terrier-type” dogs that killed the birds when she appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The dogs, Sunny and Bolt, allegedly injured and killed chickens on September 18. Bolt reportedly killed another chicken on September 20. The birds all belonged to Keith Paynter.

Ms Riley, from Smith’s, also pleaded not guilty to owning three dogs that did not come from a legitimate source and without a valid licence, as well as keeping more than two dogs on her property without permission.

The offences allegedly occurred between an unknown date and September 20.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson adjourned the case to July 14 and released Ms Riley on $10,000 bail with a surety until that time.
