Man jailed for string of offences
A man who committed a string of offences was sentenced to 18 months behind bars yesterday.
Jamiko Bean, 43, pleaded guilty to causing bodily harm, theft, wilful damage and entering a home without excuse when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court in May.
The court heard that Bean, from Devonshire, visited a residence in Paget on March 23 and choked the woman who lived there.
The woman sustained scratches to her neck during the assault.
Bean went back again six days later and took some items from the property without the woman’s permission.
The court also heard that Bean stole a wallet containing $300 in cash and a machete of an unknown value from a separate residence in Warwick, and caused $1,000 worth of damage to a door at the property, also on March 29.
He was found with the stolen items and told officers he took the machete after “some guy came after” him.
Bean had several previous convictions and has been in custody in connection with the offences for at least two months.
He apologised for his actions yesterday and told the court he damaged the other person’s door out of frustration.
Magistrate Craig Attridge ordered that Bean be considered for the Department of Corrections Right Living House treatment programme while in prison and that time already in custody be taken into account.
Mr Attridge also ordered Bean to complete 18 months of probation after being released, with conditions including not committing other offences and staying away from drugs and alcohol.
