Drug charges dropped against Hamilton Parish man

Prosecutors have halted legal proceedings against a Hamilton Parish man who had been accused of involvement with a plot to import cannabis.

Gavin O’Connor, 56, was previously charged alongside others with conspiring to import cannabis and possession of the controlled drug with intent to supply.

However, during a hearing yesterday, the Crown submitted a nolle prosequi, indicating that it no longer wished to pursue the case against him.

Puisne Judge Alan Richards told Mr O’Connor that he was discharged from the matter.

The case against his co-defendants — Taureem O’Connor, Jahdae Wade, Jalicia Crockwell, Jahkeya Spenser and Teko Bean — is still proceeding before the Supreme Court.

The remaining defendants are scheduled to return to the court on August 20 for their matter to be mentioned.
