Prosecutors drop dishonesty case against woman
Prosecutors offered no evidence against a woman accused of dishonestly receiving funds from the Argus Group.
Cheiri Palmer, 54, denied obtaining $40,442.80 from the company through a bank transfer when she appeared in Magistrates’ Court last year.
The funds were allegedly intended as a death benefit meant for another person.
Crown counsel Adley Duncan said prosecutors had dropped the case against the Warwick resident, which also involved allegations that she falsified an Argus payment form and planned to present it as genuine between July 18 and 22, 2022, on April 28.
He explained: “Having met with the complainant, the decision was taken that it was no longer in the public interest to pursue the prosecution in light of developments of which we became aware, and the prosecution was brought to an end accordingly.”
