Man remanded for carrying knife on Front Street
A man found with a knife after police were called to an argument in a Front Street bar has been remanded in custody.
Victor Fabian-Brito, 64, admitted having the weapon, which had a 7in blade, in public when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court today.
The court heard that police responding to a reported dispute at the Front Yard bar found Fabian-Brito with the knife at about 3am yesterday.
Fabian-Brito told police that he used the knife while fishing directly across from Front Yard.
Fabian-Brito’s lawyer Tiffany Butler argued that he should be given a suspended prison sentence for the offence but prosecutor Paula Tyndale suggested the St George’s resident be remanded.
Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson ordered a social inquiry report to be written for Fabian-Brito and remanded him in custody until September 5, when he is expected to be sentenced.
