Man admits prowling and theft charges
A Warwick man was referred to the Drug Treatment Court after he admitted a string of offences including the theft of a $10,000 handbag.
Anthony Swan, 64, pleaded guilty to prowling, trespassing and stealing in a series of incidents between June 27 and July 5 this year.
While details were not read in court, Matthew Frick, for the Crown, said addiction issues were evident through all of the files.
In the first of the offences, Swan admitted prowling around a dwelling in Hamilton Parish on June 27.
Days later, on June 30, Swan admitted going into another Hamilton Parish home and stealing a Louis Vuitton handbag and its contents, worth at least $10,000.
Swan also admitted entering the Collectors Hill Apothecary as a trespasser with intent to steal on July 5 and stealing a gas container valued at $50 from D&C Grill on the same day.
While Swan denied the offences in an earlier court appearance, he told the court yesterday he hoped to change his plea and enter the Drug Treatment Court programme.
Magistrate Craig Attridge ordered a drug assessment and a social inquiry report, remanding Swan into custody until the next sitting of the Drug Treatment Court.
