Man to face money-related charges in Supreme Court

A visitor charged with six money-related offences is to appear before the Supreme Court on October 1.

Derek Telles, 38, denied three counts relating to possessing and transferring more than $15,000 in Bermudian and US cash when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court in June.

Mr Telles, of an unknown address, also pleaded not guilty to attempting to steal from HSBC, dishonestly appropriating funds “with the intent of permanently depriving” the bank and using criminal proceeds to buy “luxury items” such as watches, bags, perfume and clothing.

However, prosecutors sent the case to the Supreme Court when Mr Telles appeared before magistrate Craig Attridge yesterday.

Mr Attridge adjourned the case to the October arraignments and remanded Mr Telles, who allegedly committed the offences between May 26 and June 5, in custody until that time.
