Man admits causing fatal Christmas collision
A Pembroke man was put behind bars yesterday after he admitted responsibility for a Christmas Day collision that claimed the life of a 26-year-old.
Treadwell Smith, 38, pleaded guilty to a charge of causing the death of Dennis Saunders by driving without due care and attention in an incident that took place on December 25, 2021.
As a result of the plea, prosecutors offered no evidence of other charges against him related to the fatal collision.
Puisne Judge Juan Wolffe remanded Smith into custody until next month, when the matter is scheduled to return to the courts for sentencing.
He also ordered that a drug and alcohol assessment of Smith be carried out prior to the sentencing hearing.
Mr Saunders died after a three-vehicle crash at about 5.45pm on Christmas Day on Palmetto Road, Pembroke, near the junction with Bishop Spencer Road.
The popular Mid Ocean Club worker was described at the time as a hard-working and ambitious young father.
