Man jailed for having drugs, criminal property

A man was sentenced to six months behind bars for drug and money-related offences yesterday.

Xavier Condor, 35, was sentenced two months after magistrate Craig Attridge convicted him of possessing cannabis and cannabis resin with intent to supply, a scale in connection with drug misuse, and $8,223 Bermuda cash in criminal property.

Condor committed the offences on August 1, 2023, but was found not guilty of having a substance containing THC with intent to supply on the same date.

Prosecutor Paula Tyndale said anyone, including Condor’s daughter, could have accessed the drugs that were “on display” in a St George’s home.

She suggested Condor spend between three and nine months behind bars for the offence and that the criminal cash be forfeited.

Marc Daniels, Condor’s lawyer, said cannabis is “becoming more accessible worldwide” and is “not seen as a scourge on our community as it once was”.

Mr Daniels highlighted his client’s lack of previous convictions and suggested he be given a suspended prison sentence for the offences.

Condor, from Hamilton Parish, apologised for the offences ahead of his sentencing.

Mr Attridge sentenced Condor to six months behind bars for having the cannabis, one month for the digital scale and three months each for having cannabis resin and criminal property — but ordered all four sentences to run concurrently.

Mr Attridge ordered three months of Condor’s sentence to be suspended for three years and that the cash in question be handed over.
