American faces money-related offences

A California man has been charged with having more than $180,000 in criminal property.

John Claude Shefferly, 54, was accused of possessing and attempting to remove $183,478 in US cash from Bermuda, said to be “benefit from criminal conduct”, when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Mr Shefferly was not required to put in a plea for the offences, which he allegedly committed on June 23, as the case must be heard in the Supreme Court.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson adjourned the case to the December arraignment session and remanded Mr Shefferly, from San Jose, in custody until then.
