Forgery trial continues in Magistrates’ Court
A man is accused of forging signatures on 65 cheques within a two-year period.
Peter Clark, 60, has denied committing the offences between January 2019 and June 2021, and his Magistrates’ Court trial continues.
Witness Andrew Smith told the court yesterday that he started KJ&K Security with Mr Clark in 2009.
Their business relationship ended when he “noticed discrepancies” with certain cheques.
Mr Smith explained that one weekly payroll cheque was deposited every Thursday and all security employees were paid on Fridays.
However, the court saw evidence of cheques marked “payroll” that were submitted on other days of the week.
Mr Smith claimed to have never signed nor authorised these cheques despite his signature appearing on them.
Cheques that were allegedly forged by Mr Clark between January and August 2019 alone concern more than $12,000.
Magistrate Auralee Cassidy adjourned the case to Thursday and extended Mr Clark’s bail until that time.
The trial continues.
