Man denies fraudulent use of false debit cards
A man has been charged in Magistrates’ Court with several offences related to having and attempting to use false debit cards.
Takai Tota, 38, denied eight charges when he appeared today.
All offences allegedly occurred on October 18 and include dishonestly obtaining $1,500 from HSBC and having eight false debit cards.
Mr Tota, from Pembroke, also denied attempting to use false MarketPlace gift cards “with the intention of inducing HSBC to accept it as a genuine debit card and by reason of so, accepting it to do some act on their own or another person’s prejudice”.
Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson adjourned the case to November 24 and released Mr Tota on $25,000 with a surety until that time.
Conditions of Mr Tota’s bail include reporting to Hamilton Police Station three times a week, following a daily curfew and not using any HSBC ATMs or contacting any prosecution witnesses.
