Man admits threatening woman

A man who threatened a woman is to be sentenced in Magistrates’ Court in December.

Phillip Meireles, 37, admitted committing the offence “by spoken and written words” when he appeared in court yesterday.

The court heard that Meireles posted a photo of the woman’s infant on social media without her permission.

He then sent voice notes saying “you’re gonna bury a body” and “you will lose a cousin” to members of the woman’s family in June and July.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson ordered reports be written for Meireles, from Pembroke, and said the only reason he was not remanded was because prosecutors did not request it.

Ms Anderson released Meireles on $5,000 bail with a surety until December 9, when he is expected to be sentenced.

She ordered him to report to Hamilton Police Station three days a week, be fitted with an electronic monitoring device and not contact the victim or her family.
