PLP youth leader fined for multiple traffic offences
A Progressive Labour Party youth leader and election candidate has been fined more than $2,000 for traffic offences.
Shomari Talbot-Woolridge, 28, leader of the Progressive Group, the PLP’s youth wing, admitted using an unlicensed cycle, having no insurance for the vehicle and speeding at 64km/h when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Talbot-Woolridge, from Smith’s, committed the speeding offence in October 2023 and the other two offences on April 6, less than two months after he unsuccessfully ran under the PLP banner in Smith’s West (Constituency 9) during the General Election.
Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson fined Talbot-Woolridge $2,090 for the offences and gave him until January 2 to pay.
Separately yesterday, two motorists were banned from the roads after racking up too many points on their licences.
Ricardo Beek, 28, had seven points before he admitted riding without a valid licence on October 17.
Ms Anderson fined Beek, from Smith’s $300, for the offence, added nine points to his licence and disqualified him from driving all vehicles for eight months.
Donell Mariano, 44, had six points before he admitted speeding at 73km/h.
Ms Anderson fined the Pembroke resident $430 for the offence, committed on November 13, added seven points to his licence and disqualified him from driving all vehicles for six months.
