A man who took fish from a seasonally protected area is to be sentenced in Magistrates’ Court in March.

Troy Brimmer, 62, admitted unlawfully taking fish from the northeastern grouper box during a prohibited period when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Brimmer, from Pembroke, also pleaded guilty to attempting to take fish from the area and having two red hind, a protected species, shorter than 35cm long.

Brimmer committed the offences on September 27, 2024.

No fishing is permitted within the “grouper boxes” — critical zones for grouper aggregation — between April 15 and November 30.

Magistrate Craig Attridge ordered a social inquiry report be written for Brimmer and released him on $2,500 bail until sentencing on March 19.
