Motorist referred to DUI Court

A man stopped by police this month in Pembroke has been ordered to participate in a drink-drivers’ court treatment programme.

Craig Hatherley, 41, admitted driving a car while impaired by alcohol when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that police stopped Hatherley after he almost struck the roundabout on Par-la-Ville Road at about 3am on January 9.

Hatherley told officers, who smelt alcohol on his breath, that he had “one beverage” before getting behind the wheel.

Magistrate Craig Attridge ordered reports to be written for Hatherley, from Paget, and ordered him to participate in DUI Court starting on Monday.

Mr Attridge released Hatherley on $1,500 bail and suspended him from driving all vehicles until further notice.
