Man admits having false debit cards, stealing $3,000

A man who admitted several cases of bank fraud will be sentenced today.

Jahroy Simons, 40, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court Wednesday to two counts of using fraudulent MarketPlace gift cards to deprive HSBC of cash, as well as dishonestly obtaining $3,000 from the bank by using the cards.

He was also charged with two counts of possession of fraudulent bank cards and attempting to steal cash by using the fake gift cards.

The incidents occurred between September 24 and 28 last year.

Simons, from Sandys, was initially charged with the offences on October 1 and denied them, but later opted to admit the offences.

Senior magistrates Maxanne Anderson adjourned the case for sentencing today and extended his bail.
