A One Bermuda Alliance candidate this morning denied allegations that he fought police officers at a hotel in an incident on Valentine’s Day.

John Seymour, 42, from Pembroke, pleaded not guilty in Magistrates’ Court to charges that he assaulted two officers acting in the execution of their duties at Cambridge Beaches.

He also denied charges of violently resisting arrest and taking part in a fight at the Sandys hotel property, with all of the offences alleged to have occurred on Saturday.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson released Mr Seymour on $10,000 bail with conditions that he stay away from witnesses and Cambridge Beaches.

The matter is scheduled to be mentioned in Magistrates’ Court again on March 23.

Ben Smith, the Leader of the Opposition, subsequently told The Royal Gazette: “I have been made aware of the allegations against Mr Seymour and it is my understanding that he has denied them.

“In the eyes of the law, Mr Seymour is innocent until proven guilty so it would be premature to make any comment about his candidacy at this time.”

Mr Seymour was a candidate for the OBA in the 2025 General Election in Pembroke East Central, where he came third in a three-way race against Michael Weeks of the Progressive Labour Party and Shermaine Riley-Murphy of the Free Democratic Movement. He remains listed as a candidate on the Opposition’s website.

Mr Weeks soundly won the election, securing 443 votes to Ms Riley-Murphy’s 53 votes and Mr Seymour’s 47.
