Driver injured cyclist while trying to help choking child
A driver who injured a cyclist while trying to help her choking granddaughter in the back of her car has been fined $2,000.
Lisa Caines, 63, admitted causing Vernon Tankard grievous bodily harm by driving a car without due care and attention when she appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
The court heard that Caines was driving on North Shore Road on July 8 when she assisted her young granddaughter, who appeared to be choking in the back seat.
Caines ended up hitting Mr Tankard, who was riding a pedal bike in the opposite direction and was slammed into the windshield.
Mr Tankard sustained a fractured shoulder, lacerations and other injuries in the collision but had no recollection of it.
Caines, from Warwick, was also banned from driving all vehicles except bikes for two years.
