Man remanded on sex assault, bodily harm charges

A 50-year-old man was remanded after being charged with a sex assault and three counts of bodily assault.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with sexually assaulting a woman and causing her bodily harm, as well as incapacitating her by “a means calculated to cause grievous bodily harm” so that he could commit the sex assault.

The offences were alleged to have happened between February 23 and March 6.

The man, of no fixed address, was also charged with two counts of assaulting the same woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and causing her bodily harm on March 3.

He was not required to enter a plea as the matters must be heard in the Supreme Court.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson adjourned the matter until the next Supreme Court arraignments session on April 1 and remanded the defendant in custody.
