Cricketer denies drug possession, resisting arrest
A cricket player and coach has denied several drug-related offences, including possession of $4,000-worth of cannabinoids.
George O’Brien Jr, 41, pleaded not guilty in Magistrates’ Court today to possession of cannabis with intent to supply, possession of cannabis resin with intent to supply and possession of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol with the intent to supply.
He also denied possession of cannabis resin, possession of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, two counts of possession of a scale for the use of drug equipment, three counts of possession of a grinder and one count of resisting arrest.
The incidents were alleged to have happened on July 30 last year in Pembroke.
Magistrate Auralee Cassidy adjourned the case until April 27 and released Mr O’Brien, from St George’s, on $8,000 bail.
Mr O’Brien is a former national team and St George’s Cup Match star. In 2006, he played for the Bermuda Men’s National Cricket Team during its first One Day International game, when they faced Canada. He was most recently pegged as a potential assistant coach for the national team.
