Former customs officer admits role in drug plot
A former senior customs officer admitted his involvement in a plot to import cannabis into Bermuda almost three years ago.
Scott Brown, from Southampton, pleaded guilty to having and conspiring with others to import the substance when he appeared before the Supreme Court this week.
Brown committed the offences between an unknown date and April 19, 2023, and also admitted concealing or disguising money, said to be criminal property, between April 19 and May 1 of that year.
The Department of Customs recognised Brown for 35 years of service last year, but a spokesman confirmed yesterday that he was no longer employed there.
The spokesman added: “The Ministry of National Security acknowledges the recent development of this court matter.
“This offence is a serious and egregious violation of the highest standards of trust, professionalism integrity and accountability that the Department of Customs strives every day to uphold.”
Puisne Judge Alan Richards ordered a report be written for Brown, adjourned the case to May 29 and extended his bail until that time.
