US national denies importing drugs, moving criminal cash
A US resident was remanded on charges of trafficking drugs and criminal money.
Ashanti Phannix, 45, pleaded not guilty in Magistrates’ Court yesterday to conspiring with others to import a controlled drug between an unknown date and March 27.
The type of drug and the amount alleged to have been trafficked were not given in court.
She also pleaded not guilty to possession of criminal property, namely $1,350 in US currency and $62 of Bermudian currency, and attempting to remove the criminal property from the island — both of which were alleged to have happened on March 28.
When given the option to have her case heard in Magistrates’ Court or Supreme Court, Ms Phannix chose the former.
Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson adjourned the case until April 17 and remanded Ms Phannix, from Compton, California, in custody.
