Man remanded for dangerous driving
A man who rode dangerously through two parishes has been remanded into custody.
Asinia Harvey, 28, admitted 11 offences when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court today.
The incidents happened on three dates between October 2024 and April 1 this year.
Charges included speeding, driving without due care and attention, not having a valid licence, driving dangerously, not stopping for police, riding an unlicensed and uninsured vehicle and driving while disqualified.
The court heard that police followed Harvey to the Dundonald Street Esso station on April 1 after the Warwick resident overtook them and three other vehicles on Cedar Avenue.
Harvey ignored several red lights while riding away from officers in Hamilton and continued onto Lane Hill, and collided with a car on Cavendish Road.
He left his cycle on the ground and ran away from the collision scene.
Officers eventually caught up with Harvey, who was already disqualified from driving all vehicles for two years, and took him to the Hamilton Police Station.
Prosecutor Audley Quallo told the court that Harvey’s driving was “egregious” and endangered his own life and those of police officers.
