Man sentenced for dishonestly having laptop
A man who admitted three separate offences has been sentenced to time served in custody.
Raekwon Hare, 30, admitted dishonestly obtaining a MacBook laptop belonging to P-Tech that had been stolen by another offender.
He also pleaded guilty to obstructing a police officer and threatening to kill a woman, when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court last month.
Hare, from Hamilton Parish, committed the offences on three separate dates.
The court heard that Hare approached officers who tried to seize an unclaimed bag in Queen Elizabeth Park in August 2023.
Hare became aggressive and claimed police had no right to take the bag.
The court was also told that police spoke to Hare in the park on October 9, 2023, hours after electronics were stolen from P-Tech on Reid Street.
Hare fled from officers after talking to them and the laptop was found in his bag.
Another defendant, Equan Richardson, had earlier admitted stealing the laptop and other electronics, valued at almost $10,000, which were found in and around the park.
The court then heard that Hare threatened to kill a woman on January 6 after she reminded him of a “No Trespassing” sign on Dundonald Street.
Hare admitted talking to the woman, but denied threatening her when questioned by police.
Hare, who has been behind bars for about five months, apologised to the court for “everything that happened”.
Magistrate Maria Sofianos sentenced Hare to time served for all the offences.
