Man jailed for spitting in woman’s face
A man who spat in a woman’s face is to spend a total of three months behind bars for the offence, with time already served taken into account.
William Wilson, 67, admitted assaulting Belinda Smith when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court last month, and was sentenced for the offence yesterday.
The court earlier heard that Wilson, of no known address, pointed an umbrella at Ms Smith and spat in her face when asked to leave Byrdie’s Café in Pembroke on April 22.
Prosecutor Carrington Mahoney requested that Wilson, who has been in custody since April 24, be sentenced to between six and eight weeks behind bars and ordered to keep the peace for six months.
Magistrate Auralee Cassidy imposed a six-month sentence — but suspended half the term for a period of one year.
She ordered that time already in custody be taken into account, and that Wilson keep the peace for six months.
