Forensic accountant insists he presented the facts

Forensic accountant Todd Boyd told a court how he “just stated the facts” during his investigation into a couple’s alleged $300,000 theft from four elderly clients.

Mr Boyd gave his evidence in a Zoom call to the Supreme Court yesterday, when he was quizzed by both defendants, the Reverend Jaymo Durham, 52, and Keiva Maronie Durham, 44, who are representing themselves in the case.

They are charged with stealing more than $300,000 from four seniors over seven years, and face allegations that they made and used false statements. Both deny the charges.

The four alleged victims are Doreen Stevens, Nancy Locke, and Muriel and Loretta Smith, who were all clients with Ageing and Disability Services, and the offences were allegedly committed between February 23, 2012 and July 31, 2019.

The Durhams questioned Mr Boyd on his investigation and methods. However, he replied several times: “I just presented the facts.”

Ms Durham said upon being asked to rephrase her question by Mr Boyd: “What I am asking is, in drawing up your report, would it not be best practice to examine other publicly available documents to assist in querying discrepancies or concerns in your analysis?”

Mr Boyd replied: “I believe I followed the best practice.”

After lengthy probing by Mr Durham, he stated simply: “It’s more about where the money came from and where the money went.”
