American admits smuggling cannabis

An American who imported cannabis into Bermuda will be sentenced next month.

Silamon Safi, 26, admitted the offence, as well as having the controlled drug with intent to supply when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

However, he denied importing oxycodone and possessing the opioid drug with intent to supply.

The case, which stems from an incident on April 18 in St George’s, was originally sent to the Supreme Court but returned to the lower court yesterday.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson ordered a social inquiry report and drug assessment be written for Safi and remanded him in custody until July 22 when he could be sentenced for the offences.
