Man denies assaulting police officers in East End

A man has denied assaulting two police officers and causing more than $11,000 of damage to a police vehicle.

Jazeque Smith-Hollis, 22, pleaded not guilty to assaulting Pc Robert Butterfield and Pc Tyaneil Darrell during the execution of their duty when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court.

Mr Smith-Hollis, from Pembroke, was also denied violently resisting arrest, causing $11,195 in damages to a police vehicle and two counts of using threatening words against police.

The offences were alleged to have happened last Wednesday in St George’s.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson adjourned the case until July 10 and released Mr Smith-Hollis on $7,000 bail.

She ordered him to have no contact with the officers and to report to Hamilton Police Station once a week.

In an unrelated matter, the court heard that Mr Smith-Hollis had failed to pay a $200 fine from 2023 for driving without a licence.

However, Mr Smith-Hollis told the court he had paid the fine and had a receipt of payment.

Ms Anderson adjourned the case until July 10 and ordered him to produce the receipt.
