A Warwick man has been charged in Magistrates’ Court with stealing and carrying a bladed article at a Paget store.

Jordayo Johnston, 35, was also charged with trespassing at the A1 Paget Grocery operated by The MarketPlace. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

It is alleged that on August 11, without good reason or lawful authority, the defendant carried a knife with a four-inch blade at the store on Valley Road.

It was further alleged that on the same date, he stole from the store two chocolate bars and a granola bar, valued at $31.97 in total.

The court heard that on the same date, the defendant entered the store without expressed permission and, in doing so, disobeyed a written notice which forbade him to trespass.

Magistrate Auralee Cassidy remanded Mr Johnston into custody until September 18, when the matter will call again in Magistrate’s Court.
