A man has been remanded in custody after denying assaulting police officers, using threatening words and resisting arrest while inside the court building.

Michael Simons, 30, of no fixed abode, pleaded not guilty to all five charges against him yesterday at plea court.

The court heard how the alleged incident occurred on Friday morning in the Dame Lois Browne-Evans Building on Court Street in Hamilton after Mr Simons refused to remove items from his pockets upon entering.

He is charged with assaulting two police officers, threatening with intent to cause alarm, using threatening words and resisting arrest.

Duty counsel Vaughan Caines said that Mr Simons is working two jobs and asked for bail.

However, senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson remanded the accused in custody.

Mr Simons will appear in court again on October 12 for a mention.
