Surprises in store for Dubai tour?

Bermuda head coach David Moore is expected to spring a couple of surprises when he names his squad for next month's tour to Dubai today. The Australian will name his 15-man squad this morning, having informed the players of his decision over the weekend and once again the make-up of the team is believed to reflect Moore's emphasis on work ethic as well as –ability.A month or so of winter training is believed to have helped the head coach identify the players he thinks can take Bermuda forward, although not all of them will be able to travel to Dubai this time around.Amongst the usual suspects, such as skipper David Hemp, Chris Foggo, Fiqre Crockwell, Malachi Jones, Rodney Trott, and Jim West, the head coach, it is understood, is also thought to have been impressed with the hard work put in by the likes of Sammy Robinson, Donnico Hollis, Rudell Pitcher and Dwayne Leverock.Kyle Hodsell is another player who has reportedly come on leaps and bounds in the past month or so, while talk within the game this weekend is that Damali Bell will be selected. There is also Lionel Cann to consider and it maybe that his full return to the national squad will be completed today.Three players who will definitely not be involved this time around are injured pair Irving Romaine and Stephen Outerbridge, as well as Joshua Gilbert. The young Somerset spinner is coming into a vitally important school year and the decision was made that his first focus should be his exams in April. Because of this he won't take any part in the two trips to the Middle East. The loss of Gilbert, meanwhile, would seem to suggest that if a second spinner were to go, then Delyone Borden would fill that slot, considering the options he gives with the bat and in the field.Of the rest, Jason Anderson and Dion Stovell certainly seem likely to go, especially given their performances last time out in Canada against a good West Indies High Performance team.Similarly, UK-based duo Terryn Fray and Stefan Kelly would be sensible choices, with Fray showing every sign of being able to open the innings alongside Hemp should the situation require it.Undoubtedly the toughest decision Moore has had to face came with the bowling attack, where competition is greater than it has been for a while.Kevin Tucker and Justin Pitcher both impressed when they played for Bermuda this year, although both are susceptible to injury, while Jordan DeSilva has reportedly fixed the problems he was having with his bowling action towards the end of the season and is approaching his best once more.Kelly, too, is far from being a certainty. While he has genuine pace, he sometimes struggles to bowl to plan, as was seen in Namibia in April and on a couple of occasions over the summer.Moore had plenty of options and it will be interesting to see who goes, who stays, and who has dropped out of the running altogether.
