We need to improve, says Moore
Bermuda head coach David Moore gave his side six out of ten for their five-wicket win over UAE Under-19s in Dubai. The Australian said that while it was nice to win he didn't want anyone getting carried away with the result, or allowing it to paper over the cracks. In a candid assessment of yesterday's first game at the ICC Global Cricket Academy, Moore expressed dissatisfaction with his team's bowling effort, in which Bermuda conceded 19 extras and UAE scored nearly half their runs on the leg side.“I think we've bowled worse, but it was a poor start and once again our disciplines were bad,” said Moore“We keep talking, talking, talking about the disciplined bowling, the fact that you've got to bowl one side of the wicket, the fact that you've got to get them playing forward, and hitting the top of off-stump and all that sort of stuff, and we just didn't do that.“We bowled 14 wides and two no balls, and those extras aren't acceptable, not acceptable at all, and the whole idea of the camp was not to only get results, although it's nice to win, but you can't let the win paper over the cracks.”Moore was also unhappy with the attitude displayed by several of his fast bowlers, who he felt used the fact that they were a bit stiff as an excuse.“We're looking for guys with character who can work through pain,“ he said.“There's not an elite fast bowler on earth who doesn't bowl with pain, and I can't accept that if you're a bit stiff, and a bit sore, that's an acceptable excuse.“It's not an easy profession being a fast bowler. I was pleased with Stefan Kelly. I thought he was the pick of our bowlers early up, and of course West and Borden were very good. Those guys have certainly put their hands up.”It wasn't all doom and gloom though, and Moore said he was also happy with several aspects of the team's performance and felt that the manner in which they arrived at the win, with a vast improvement in the fielding as the game went on, and batsmen taking responsibility, was of greater significance than the result itself.“You try and take the result out of the equation really, because you're looking for the processes we spoke about before the tour,“ said Moore.“I think we give ourselves six out of ten for processes but we don't want the results to allow us to get carried away, which often happens, not just in Bermuda, but generally.”SCORECARDUAE U-19s v BermudaUAE U-19sR Abraham c Hemp b Kelly 6Z Jaleel run out (West) 67S Ramesh run out (Hemp) 26C Suri c Anderson b West 5D D’Souza c Hemp b Stovell 42S Gir c Anderson b Desilva 19M Hamid c&b Kelly 13A Malik run out (Kelly) 7W Ahmed not out 6Muzammal c Anderson b Kelly 1M Khan lbw Jones 6Extras (2b, 3nb, 14w) 19Total (all out: 46.5 overs) 218Fall of wickets: 1-26, 2-101, 3-113, 4-122, 5-163, 6-186, 7-203, 8-205, 9-209.Bowling: Desilva 8-0-45-1, Kelly 9-0-37-3, Jones 5.5-0-42-1, West 10-1-49-1, Borden 10-2-30-0, Stovell 4-0-13-1.BermudaD Stovell c Vijaykumer b A Malik 13D Hemp c Gir b S Malik 5J Anderson c Vijaykumer b Ramesh 73F Crockwell c Vijaykumer b A Malik 12C Foggo c Khan b Ramesh 44L Cann not out 46D Borden not out 7Extras (3b, 7lb, 12w) 22Total (for five wickets: 46.3 overs) 222Fall of wickets: 1-6, 2-20, 3-36, 4-159, 5-173.Did not bat: J Desilva, S Kelly, M Jones, J West.Bowling: A Malik 9-1-30-2, S Malik 5-0-26-1, M Khan 4-0-23-0, W Ahmed 9.3-1-29-0, Muzammal 5-0-23-0, J James 4-0-21-0, C Suri 5-0-16-0, S Ramesh 5-0-44-2.Umpires: R Shah, D Ahmed.
