Afghanistan 239

Bermuda have been set a target of 240 to chase after for victory over Afghanistan at the famous Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.

The Asians recovered from a massive slide that saw them lose four wickets for the addition of ten runs to post what could prove a challenging total for Bermuda’s batsmen on a spacious pitch.

Left arm spinner Dwayne Leverock (one for 33) snapped a 100 run partnership between opener Karim Sadiq and number three bat Asghar Stanikzai (38) when he had the latter caught at mid on by David Hemp in the 28th over.

All –rounder Janeiro Tucker (two for 30) then placed Bermuda in the ascendancy when he picked two wickets off deliveries of gentle seam as Afghanistan slipped from 146 for two to 157 for six in the space of four overs.

Rodney Trott, the Bermuda off spinner, also held his end of the bargain by claiming two for 32 while pacer George O’Brien jr had two for 53.

The diminutive Sadiq topped the Afghanistan batting, scoring 83 from 103 balls while Nawroz Mangal hit an unbeaten 70 and shared in an unbroken 49 run ninth-wicket stand that carried the Pepsi World Cricket League Division Three Champions to a more respectable total.

The winning run rate required is 4.7.
