Heroes of Cup Match past to be honoured
Eight more former players or administrators will be honoured when Heritage Productions host their sixth annual Emancipation Celebration Awards Luncheon on Sunday at the BIU building.
The luncheon is an occasion when former Cup Match players are recognised for their participation and contribution to the summer classic.
Each year players from the two clubs are honoured and this year the Somerset recipients are Reginald Tucker, Willard Raynor, Gladwin (Dewey) Trott and Herman (Butch) Smith.
The St. George's players being recognised are Gregory (Brutus) Foggo, Wilbur Pitcher, Anthony Trott and Clevie Foggo, a former St. George's president.
As well, a special award will be presented to Janet (Pinky) Todd for her outstanding service as the Cup Match scorer for the Bermuda Broadcasting Company.
Heritage Productions organised the first Emancipation Awards Luncheon ceremony to commemorate Bermuda's emancipation while simultaneously honouring those men who have helped to promote Bermuda's cultural heritage.
Past recipients of the Emancipation luncheon include John Stovell, Kenny Paul, Winton (Timmy) Edwards, Calvin (Bummy) Symonds, Sheridan Raynor, Rupert Scotland, Austin (Cheesey) Hughes, Dennis Wainwright, Eldon Raynor, Lee Raynor, Junius Durrant, Clarence Parfitt and Randy Horton, to name a few.
Special guests of this year's event will include the Minister of Culture and Social Rehabilitation, Neletha Butterfield, Dame Jennifer Smith and presidents of the Cup Match clubs, Richard Scott (Somerset) and Neil Paynter (St. George's).
Tickets for the luncheon are $35. For more information contact Dr. Radell Tankard on 534-8265.
