Bermuda v England update

from Arnos Vale, St. Vincent

England 116-3 (after 20 overs)

A magnificent catch in the 20th over by Irving Romaine off Malachi Jones to dismiss England's Ian Bell (46) justfour runs short of his half-century helped re-energise Bermuda.

Romaine took the full force of a crushing Bell drive at mid wicket and held on briliantly to leave England at 112 for three.

Prior to that dismissal England had continued to steam along at almost six runs an over, Bell and Kevin Pietersen, repairing the early damage which saw both openers, Ed Joyce and skipper Michael Vaughan, sent back by Bermuda pacer Kevin Hurdle.

Bell, however, should have gone in the 16th over when he hoisted Jones to the long-on boundary where Saleem Mukuddem seemed to have snared the catch but then dropped it as he attempted to throw the ball back in the air in celebration.

Teenager Jones, who at 17 will be the third youngest player to have taken part in a World Cup, came in for some heavy punishment, particularly from Pietersen, conceding 10 runs in his first over and 24 off his first three.

In a game in which 13 players are allowed to be rotated on the field, Bermuda's big spinner Dwayne Leverock entered the fray in the 21st over, conceding just three runs.

Pietersen was on 39 and new bat Paul Collingwood six.
