Somerset skipper Jacobi Robinson heaped praised on his side for their "tremendous grit" over the two days of Cup Match at Somerset Cricket Club, although the result didn't go his way with Mother Nature being the real winner.

The 2010 edition ended in the same fashion as last year with the challengers trying to end their long drought by throwing everything in their arsenal at their rivals, but to no avail.

As was the case in 2007 in St. George's, Somerset just didn't have enough sunshine to bowl out their opponents a second time on the final day, with the match abandoned shortly before 4 p.m.

Yet Robinson was pleased with the effort put in by his side and the fans that came out for the two rainy days.

"I felt we had St. George's in some trouble heading into the second innings until the rain came," said Robinson.

"I thought we could have won the game had mother nature not interfered, but I can't complain at all about the fight my team put out on the pitch and we can hold our heads up high.

"Everyone came out through the rain and with how the morning started we were looking to have our hands on the cup but it wasn't meant to be."

Admitting the side were a bit jaded as the first day drew to a close, Robinson reckons the team talk afterwards inspired many in the camp, particularly Malachi Jones who produced a spell of seam bowling that clawed Somerset back into contention.

"Towards the end of the day yesterday we faded a bit and we had a talk and Malachi knew what his job was this morning after we spoke and he came out and produced a great spell, something we had asked of him and it was nice to see that he produced the goods.

"Jordan and myself helped him out where we needed to and it was important that we continued to fight for what we thought was ours."

The question for next year will be if Jacobi will be captain, and if he isn't who will take over.

The captain took two wickets for 55 runs while contributing for the bat, but still remains winless in the annual classic as skipper.

No matter the outcome of decisions that will be made by the Somerset hierarchy, Robinson is anxious to get on with next year's preparations.

"I am extremely happy and privileged to have a team that I had this year and hopefully we can do this again, if I am captain.

"To lead this team out again will be an honour because I feel we have the tools to win this match.

"Congratulations to St. George's for holding onto the cup due to the rain but we are hoping that next year won't be the same elements and result."
