Breaking news: Bermuda lose to Holland
Bermuda lost to Holland today by 64 runs, ending their dreams of qualifying for the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
Bermuda needed to beat the Netherlands and have United Arab Emirates defeat Afghanistan to have a chance of qualifying for the next round of the World Cup qualifiers, but while UAE did its part, winning by five wickets, Bermuda fell short, scoring 241-9, with David Hemp again top scoring with 81.
Earlier, Bermuda was set a massive target after being put to the sword by Holland at Senwes Park.
Led by dashing knocks of 67 and 44 by Ryan ten Doeschate and Alexei Kervezee and a ruthless 41 off just 15 deliveries by tailender Edgar Schiferli, the Dutch rattled up a big total after recovering from a top and middle order wobble which saw four wickets tumble for 47 runs.
There were 30 extras including 20 wides.
Still, Bermuda bowled superbly in the middle overs to stall the run rate, which swelled to as high as seven at one stage, below five runs per over thanks to tidy spells from spinners Rodney Trott and Dwayne Leverock and swing bowler Janeiro Tucker.
Trott, fast bowler Stefan Kelly and skipper Irving Romaine took two wickets each.
