<Bt-3z26>Sims urges cricketers to give it all

Bermuda’s Nationwide Tour pro Michael Sims has thrown his full support behind the Island’s World Cup cricket squad.

After missing the cut at last month’s HSBC New Zealand Open in Auckland, Sims hopes to bounce back at next week’s $500,000 Chitimacha Louisiana Open in Louisiana.

But with most, if not all, of the Island’s attention now focused firmly on the national cricket team here in Trinidad, Sims sent his best wishes to players while urging on his fellow countrymen as they take their place in cricket history.

“Go out there and give it your everything because you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. And this makes any team dangerous,” he said.

“This is a very special event made even more so by the fact that Bermuda are among the field. And I hope our guys can take it all in and enjoy the moment.” While golf is his number one love, Sims holds an appreciation for cricket.

“I think cricket is a great game,” he added. “One of the things I truly miss in the summer back home is being at Cup Match.

“I try to follow what is going on in cricket around the world online. And so I guess you could say I am a little fan.”

Sims shot a two-under -par 70 during the opening round at last month’s New Zealand Open. But his chances of making a second straight Nationwide cut at the 6,526 yard Clearwater Country Club layout were dashed after he plummeted seven shots over par during a rain-affected second round.

“I simply didn’t play well when play resumed,” he admitted. “When you have a bad hole with only eight holes left to play, it’s really difficult to post good numbers.”
