Bermuda crash to 74 run defeat against Uganda

Bermuda wicketkeeper Jason Anderson attempts to stump a Uganda batsman

Bermuda crashed to a 74 run defeat at the hands of Uganda in their third game of the World Cricket League Division Two tournament in Dubai today.Chasing 250 to win, Bermuda were bowled out for 175, with three overs remaining.Having stressed the need to improve their strike rate after the game against Hong Kong on Saturday, Bermuda went in the other direction and were worse this time around. They failed to score off 184 balls, or 67.49 percent of the 47 overs that they faced.Uganda came into the game on the back of a thumping 205 run defeat at the hands of Namibia, but on the back of a fine unbeaten 66 from wicketkeeper Laurence Sematimba, and some inconsistent bowling from Bermuda, they posted a healthy 249 for five from their 50 overs.Bermuda's innings never really got going, they collapsed to 41 for four, and were doing so badly that they opted to take their batting power play in only the 17 over. That might have worked if Jason Anderson (40) and Lionel Cann (44) had shown some urgency, but they failed to do so, and the fact that Anderson's 38 came from 106 balls said everything about the batting display.Bermuda now face Namibia tomorrow and another defeat would put them in serious danger of being relegated to Division Three.See tomorrow's Royal Gazette for full coverage.
