Underdog tag suits us Outerbridge

Stephen Outerbridge

Bailey’s Bay batsman Stephen Outerbridge said his team are relishing their underdog tag ahead of this weekend’s Belco Cup semi-final against defending champions PHC.Outerbridge, who is recovering from a knee injury, is expected to be in the lineup when Bay take on PHC for the right to play in Sunday’s final at Lords against either Southampton Rangers or Willow Cuts.Although the Bermuda international is confident Bay can win the Belco Cup, he is more concerned with having a strong league campaign and getting himself fully fit.“We’re the underdogs, but at the end of the day we’re only focused on the performances of the side and not the result as we continue to prepare for the season that starts soon,” said Outerbridge. whose team face PHC at Somerset Cricket Club.“We look forward to playing them, they’re the champions and I’ll gladly take the underdog tag for this match.“I’m playing this weekend, I feel better then previously but I’m not sure of playing both games at the moment. If we can perform well everything will fall into place.”Bay came close to winning the title last season but lost their final game of the Premier Division campaign to eventual winners Southampton Rangers. And Outerbridge is looking for another strong season this time around.“We had a good season last year, and I think over the past five years we have progressed well,” he said.“When you look at where we were sitting in the table, lying fourth or fifth in the First Division, each year we have progressed to, I hope at the end of the day we can get some silverware,” he said.“Hopefully we can end up at the top of the table of each league, both Twenty20 and 50 overs, but we want to get to playing good cricket first and foremost.Added to the anticipation of this weekend’s clash is a fact that PHC have only beaten Bay once in their history.Outerbridge said: “We play PHC, the champions, and from what I know they have beaten us only once in their history, they caught us at a good time last year but it has always been a good contest between the clubs.”The other semi-final match between Rangers and Willow Cuts will take place at Lords on Saturday.
